Handicap Accessible Swings at TCPC

Handicap Swings

Brooke Downey, Taylor County Primary Center 1st Grade Teacher, and Erin Whitlock, Taylor County Primary Center Speech-Language Pathologist, collaborated to write a grant asking for handicap accessible equipment for Taylor County Primary Center’s growing playground. They submitted the grant with assistance of the Adair-Taylor County Shriners to Kosair Charities. In April of 2018, the school was awarded a grant of almost $6,000 to purchase handicap accessible playground equipment.

TCPC currently services 600 students, with 110 of those students being identified as children with exceptional needs. TCPC’s goal is to continue to partner with Kosair Charities to promote inclusion of all individuals through grant funded projects.

TCPC 1st graders Colt Begley and Braelyn Underwood tried out the swings for the first time with their peers from Mrs. Downey’s and Mrs. Sullivan’s classes watching.

Special thanks goes to Robert Flowers (Kosair Charity Board Member), Steven Baker, and the Adair-Taylor County Shriners for their support and dedication to the needs of all children. Also, thank you to Taylor County Fence for donating additional fencing to complete the playground perimeter
