Lieutenant Governor Jenean Hampton visits Taylor County High School

Lt. Governor Hampton

On Monday, September 10, 2018 Jenean Hampton, Kentucky Lieutenant Governor, visited Taylor County High School to discuss with students the 2019 Lt. Governor’s Entrepreneurship Challenge.

The challenge is open to all high school students grades 9-12 and teams consist of 2-4 students and an adult mentor. According to the website, “the goal is to introduce students to a realistic business environment, highlight entrepreneurial values, promote business ownership, and encourage lifelong learning.” Lt. Governor Hampton said she wanted to start this program because “growing up in inner city Detroit, no one talked about owning their own business” and through the years she’s realized that people who own their own businesses were introduced to it at some point in their life. So, she wanted to create something for students to become exposed to entrepreneurship early on.

There are four components to the challenge: a written business plan, an oral presentation, a marketing video, and a tradeshow booth display. The winners from last year were awarded $50,000 in scholarship money. More information about the challenge can be found on the website and the deadline to register is December 3, 2018.

Taylor County School District and Taylor County High School would like to thank Lt. Governor Hampton for taking time to discuss this opportunity with our students and for visiting our school.
