Taylor County School District was honored to welcome Kentucky Commissioner of Education Dr. Robbie Fletcher and Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman to Taylor County High School to celebrate vibrant learning in action!

During the visit, Taylor County High School teacher Sydney Newton experienced the surprise of a lifetime. Milken Educator Awards Senior Vice President Dr. Jane Foley, Lt. Governor Coleman, and Dr. Fletcher presented Mrs. Newton with the prestigious Milken Educator Award, along with a $25,000 cash prize, during a school-wide assembly!!

Often referred to as the “Oscar of Teaching,” the Milken Educator Award recognizes exceptional educators for instructional excellence, professional leadership, community engagement, and their potential for even greater impact in the profession.

Mrs. Newton is the sole Kentucky recipient for the 2025–2026 school year and the first educator in Taylor County School District history to receive this national honor. We are incredibly proud of her and the excellence she represents!!

Expect greatness from Taylor County teachers!
