Congratulations to Taylor County School District’s Achievement Award Winners for January! The recipients were recognized at the Board Meeting on Monday, January 13, 2020.

The categories for the TC Achievement Award include TC Leadership (Leadership, Innovation, Team Leader, Project Leader), TC Cares (Service, Kindness, Giving of Time and Talents, Philanthropy), TC Pride (Achievement in the Classroom and Extracurriculars, Teamwork, Work Ethic), and TC Partnership (Community Partnerships, Parent Involvement).

Christina Hicks, Art Teacher at Taylor County Primary Center and Taylor County Intermediate School, was the recipient of the TC Leadership Award. Mrs. Hicks completely transformed the TCPC/TCIS art classroom at the beginning of the year to include maker-spaces for students. She has created a welcoming environment where students are excited to learn about and create art.

Her enthusiasm and leadership have students excited about art class and they’re eager to discover what they’ll learn about next. Additionally, she has displayed student artwork throughout both schools bringing extra attention to the talented artists we have in our district!

Kim Shofner, ECE Teacher at Taylor County Intermediate School, was the recipient of the TC Leadership Award. She truly cares about all the students! She starts her day by greeting students outside in the car line and then works with third grade students and teachers throughout the day.

Mrs. Shofner works to meet the needs of students and provides support for our teachers. In addition, she is a leader in the ECE Department. She is always willing to cover for other teachers and provides additional resources for the students. Mrs. Shofner has stepped up to cover ARC meetings and write plans. She is TCIS’ go-to when a student needs extra help and is a tremendous asset at Taylor County Intermediate School.

Kecia Burress, Guidance Secretary and Registrar at Taylor County Primary Center, is the recipient of the TC Pride Award. On top of being very organized and professional, Kecia is instrumental in the daily running of the primary office. She is also the first point of contact when a family enrolls at the primary center. She ensures all paperwork is complete and answers all the questions posed by families. She helps make new families feel welcome!

Kecia also takes charge of ensuring timesheets are accurate and completed by the end of the day, thus aiding the ladies at the Board Office. She is on top of staff attendance reporting too, helping with our district-wide attendance initiative!

She stays up-to-date and relevant on information, including Infinite Campus and standards-based report cards.

Mrs. Kecia takes great pride in helping Taylor County Primary Center become a great place for students to learn and grow!!
