Backpacks for Bam

Jamie Sizemore, Executive Director for Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland, delivered 300 backpacks of food to Taylor County School District on Friday, January 24, 2020. Ann Mattingly, Director of the Family Resource Center, received the food on behalf of the district.

The 2,100 backpacks were originally packed by members from the Kentucky General Assembly in Frankfort as part of an initiative supported by Kentucky Representative and Taylor County School District’s 21st Century Coordinator, John “Bam” Carney. The backpacks are being dispersed to food insecure school-age children across Kentucky.

“Because of the support given to education and hunger-relief programs by Kentucky House Majority Floor Leader Representative John ‘Bam’ Carney, FAKH made the decision to deliver their backpacks to schools in Taylor County.” The backpacks will be given to students who are part of the BackPack Program.

Members from Bam’s family were also in attendance to accept the backpacks in Bam’s honor, including his brother, Mark Carney, son, Ethan Carney, and nieces, Shelby Carney Hinton and Mackenzie Carney.
